Powerspan Corp. Appoints Roger W. Sant, George Polk, and Thomas C. Leonard to its Board of Directors
PORTSMOUTH, NH – Powerspan Corp., a clean energy technology company, announced the appointment of Roger W. Sant, co-founder of the AES Corporation; George Polk, executive committee chairman of the European Climate Foundation; and Thomas C. Leonard, CFO of Pennichuck Corporation to the Company’s Board of Directors.

Sant is co-founder and chairman emeritus of the AES Corporation, a global power company with operations in 29 countries. After nearly 25 years of service, he retired from the AES Board of Directors in 2006. He is a member of the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution, having served as the first Chair of the Board. He is chairman of The Summit Foundation and the Summit Fund of Washington, the vice chairman of the National Symphony Orchestra Board, and treasurer of the World Wildlife Fund-U.S. Sant received a B.S. from Brigham Young University and an M.B.A with Distinction from the Harvard Graduate School of Business. He is the author of Creating Abundance – America’s Least-Cost Energy Strategy (1982).
Polk is chairman of the executive committee of the European Climate Foundation (ECF). The ECF was founded in 2007 and works closely with NGOs and governments to promote good climate policy in Europe. The ECF is the sister organization to the U.S. Energy Foundation and the China Sustainable Energy Program. Polk is also the CEO of the Catalyst Project, which works with a small number of large donors to develop and implement strong philanthropic strategies to accelerate the world’s response to climate change. He is a Harvard University graduate and a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and of the Royal Institute of International Affairs.
Leonard is senior vice president – finance, treasurer, and chief financial officer of Pennichuck Corporation. Prior to joining Pennichuck, he was a vice president at CRA International where he assisted audit committees, Boards of Directors, and managements of public companies in investigating potential accounting and disclosure issues related to financial reporting and disputes. He was also a partner at Arthur Andersen in Boston and the audit division head of the assurance and business advisory practice for New England. Leonard is a Certified Public Accountant in Massachusetts and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He earned a B.S. in Accounting and Finance from the University of Wisconsin.
Powerspan Corp., a clean energy technology company headquartered in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is engaged in the development and commercialization of proprietary carbon capture and multi-pollutant control technology for the electric power industry. The Company’s post-combustion carbon dioxide (CO2) capture technology, called ECO2®, can be applied to existing and proposed coal-fired power plants to capture 90 percent CO2. The Company is currently pilot testing its ECO2 technology on a 1-megawatt (MW) scale at a power plant in southeastern Ohio.
